Times of Stuggle

Finding Faith in Life’s Fiery Trials: When Struggles Test Your Spirit

Discovering divine presence in your darkest moments and the power of community during difficult seasons

The Reality of Life

Struggles are a part of life, but faith can be your anchor through the storm. It’s crucial to remember that God never promised we wouldn’t face hardships—He promised to walk alongside us when we do. While this truth doesn’t always make the journey easier, it transforms how we navigate our most challenging seasons.

We find ourselves asking painful questions: What triggered that health crisis? What sparked that argument? I wish I had a good answer. My only thought is that we all have our furnaces.

Walking Through Fire Without Being Consumed

Remember Daniel? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego ? When these three men were thrown into the blazing furnace, a mysterious fourth figure appeared—walking with them in the flames. The fire that should have destroyed them couldn’t even touch them.

We all have our personal furnaces—while we feel the heat, we are never completely burned. This isn’t coincidence; it’s evidence of God in our struggles.

The Essential Power of Human Connection

During life’s most challenging chapters, isolation becomes our enemy. Everyone needs “a person”—someone who can offer support, understanding, and companionship through the darkness. This isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s recognition of how we’re designed for community and mutual support. We were born for fellowship and walking with God through the garden. So find your person.

Finding your person might mean reaching out to a trusted friend or family member. It could also involve connecting with a faith community or support group. Seeking spiritual counseling when needed is another option. The key is recognizing that we weren’t meant to navigate life’s storms in isolation.

Prayer as Your Lifeline

Prayer doesn’t require eloquent words or perfect theology. Sometimes the most authentic prayers are simply crying out and asking “why?” or desperately pleading for help. These raw, honest conversations with God are not only acceptable—they’re biblical.

The Psalms are filled with David’s unfiltered emotions, his questions, his fears, and his desperate pleas. Your struggles and doubts don’t disqualify your prayers; they make them more genuine. Make your requests known to God, whether through tears, anger, confusion, or quiet whispers.

Moving Forward with Faith

While we will never fully understand why certain struggles enter our lives, we can choose how we respond to them. Faith doesn’t remove the heat of our trials, but it provides assurance that we’re not walking through them alone. The same God that protected Daniel’s friends in the furnace walks with us through our own fiery seasons.

Remember the feeling of the heat doesn’t mean you’ll be consumed. Your struggles are real and challenging but they don’t have the final word in your story. With God, all things are possible and for each step of your journey, He is there, whether you ‘feel’ Him or not.

Are you currently walking through a difficult season? Remember that seeking support and maintaining faith aren’t signs of weakness—they’re evidence of wisdom and strength.

Everyone needs ‘a person’. Find yours.
